Invasion of the Blobs
Downloads and Documentation

BEFORE YOU PLAY, PLEASE READ!

I have made "Invasion of the Blobs" available for download for the sole purpose of sharing a piece of my past with my visitors. It is an old DOS-based game I created in the mid-1990's. It ran perfectly back then, but like most old computer games, it may cause problems on newer systems.

I've addressed known glitches on this page, listing the environments in which they occur, what triggers them, and how to work around them. None of the glitches I have encountered have damaged my computer or any data stored on it. However, this game has not been tested on all operating systems and therefore you may run into problems that I have not.

If you are worried about this program possibly having a negative effect on your computer, your best course of action is to not download and run it.

How to download and setup "Invasion of the Blobs"

Known Glitches

  • The game freezes.
    • This may occur on Windows 98 systems when completing levels or loading cut-scene images.
    • Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to bring up the "Close Program" window. At this point, you can select "End Task" to shut the program down. If you want to keep playing, go to the next step.
    • Select "Cancel". The program will still be running, but as a minimized button on the Windows Toolbar.
    • Right-click the "Blobs" button. Select "Properties". Click the "Screen" tab and check the "Window" option. Click "OK".
    • The game should now be displayed within a window. If the playing field is not showing, you may need to press Enter a few times to skip any cut-scene images.
    • Once the game has resumed, click the "Full Screen" button to continue playing.
  • Video and audio problems.
    • The colors and graphics may display incorrectly, and music and/or sound audio don't play.
    • You can configure the game's settings by clicking "CONFIG.BAT".
    • Under "VGA Chip Type", select "Simulate". The game only uses 256 colors, so more modern graphics cards aren't necessary.
    • On a Windows 98 system, I got music but no sound effects. On a Windows XP system, I got neither.
    • Don't worry too much if the sound isn't working. You're not missing anything spectacular.
    • If you REALLY want audio, you could try changing the "Port" and "Interrupt" settings on the configuraton screen.
  • The map looks jumbled.
    • This may occur on Windows XP systems.
    • I think this is caused when the program has a hiccup while trying to keep track of the locations of the map, enemies, and character.
    • The exit to a level may not be where it should be. You may accidentally find that it has relocated to a random spot on the map, even outside the normal boundries of the level.
    • A quick fix is to reload a saved game and try to make it through the level again.
